Handyworker Program<\/h2>\n

The Village of Schaumburg provides a Handyworker Program to assist low and moderate-income seniors and persons with disabilities with minor repairs. Funds are provided through the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), which is allocated to the Village by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).<\/p>\n

The village provides eligible, owner-occupied residents with grants for minor repairs. Seniors age 62 and older or persons with disabilities who own their home and income qualify are eligible to submit an application. Additional information, such as tax returns, W-2s, pay stubs, proof of ownership, and proof of insurance are required. The maximum grant amount is $500.<\/p>\n

How Does the Program Work?<\/h2>\n

Once the application is approved, an inspection of the home is conducted by village staff with the homeowner. This inspection is conducted to identify that the requested improvements meet the program criteria. A list of improvements is developed by staff in conjunction with the homeowner. The village will forward the list to a handyworker and\/or electrician who will contact you to schedule the appointment.<\/p>\n

The handyworker will complete the work but is limited to a maximum of 4 hours at any time. Once the work is completed, the village will pay the handyworker directly upon approval of work.<\/p>\n

*Income figures are for 2023 and provided by HUD. Income eligibility is based on those who are less than 80 percent of the Median Income.<\/p>\n
