The Village of Schaumburg is committed to providing the very best services for all citizens and those who visit the community. The Police and Fire Departments along with Engineering and Public Works provide assistance and services to the public on a variety of levels.<\/p>\n

Bias Free Policing<\/strong>
\nAll persons having contact with members of the Schaumburg Police Department shall be treated in a nonpartisan, fair, equitable, and objective manner, in accordance with the law, and without consideration of their race, color, national origin or other individual characteristics or distinctions as defined by department policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Body Worn Camera Policy<\/strong>
\nAs of April 17, all Schaumburg police officers will be wearing body-worn cameras. Body-worn cameras capture real-time video evidence of rapidly evolving events and document the incidents for review either internally or by the judicial system and the public. The body-worn camera is mounted to an officer\u2019s uniform and is a tool that has been shown to improve evidence collection, strengthen officer performance and accountability, enhance transparency, better document encounters between the public and the police, assist in the investigation of complaints, and improve procedural justice in law enforcement. The Body Worn Cameras policy<\/a> provides officers with instructions on when and how to use body worn cameras.<\/p>\n

Use of Force Policy<\/strong>The Schaumburg Police Department was the first law enforcement agency in Illinois to gain accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA\u00ae) in 1986, which independently recognizes departments for achieving the highest standards of professionalism. The police department today has maintained its accreditation status with CALEA and continues its tradition of providing professional, unbiased, and ethical service to our community. Schaumburg officers are held to high standards and are required to abide by rules and regulations that go well beyond state and federal laws. The Schaumburg use of force policy<\/a> requires officers to value every life and place minimal reliance upon the use of force.<\/p>\n
