RTA Passes for Seniors and those with Disabilities
RTA Reduced Fare and Ride Free Permit Card
RTA issues Reduced Fare and Ride Free permit cards online and in-person. This card is available for seniors or for people with a disability and allows qualifying riders to ride Metra, Pace buses, and CTA buses and trains at a reduced rate.
Customers can now apply online at RTA Fare Programs Online.
Customers can register in-person at Schaumburg’s Village Hall, one of the region’s RTA’s processing centers. In-person registration is currently by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Transportation Department.
Who Can Apply?
Reduced Fare Permit Card – All individuals 65 years old and older and individuals with disabilities who who are ineligible for the RTA Ride Free Card. Note that Seniors may apply within three (3) weeks of their 65th birthday.
Ride Free Permit Card – Individuals 65 years old and older and individuals with disabilities who are enrolled in the Illinois Department on Aging’s Benefit Access program. Applicants must be enrolled in the Benefit Access Program before applying. Schaumburg residents can enroll in the Benefit Access Program at your local township. If you are unsure if you are enrolled in the program, please call 847.923.3861 for confirmation.
Annual income requirements to be eligible for the Benefit Access Program:
- $33,562 for a 1 person household (yourself only); or
- $44,533 for a 2 person household (yourself and your spouse, or yourself and one qualified additional resident); or
- $55,500 for a 3 person household (yourself, your spouse and one qualified additional resident, or yourself and two qualified additional residents).
Replacement Cards
If your Card is lost or stolen, you must fill out a replacement application. Applications are available at the village’s Transportation Department or call the RTA 312.913.3110. The fee is $5 for the first replacement and $10 for each additional replacement. You will be required to mail the application and payment directly to the RTA. It is not necessary to submit another photograph and picture ID.
Expiring or Expired Cards
If your Card has expired or is expiring soon, you need to re-apply. Simply call the RTA at 312.913.3110 between 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please have your social security number and the ID number from your permit ready.
