Barbara Manaugh

Lovingly memorialized by Colin Drukker on January 27, 2021

Barbara Claire Manaugh was born in Columbus Ohio to Jacob Meyer and Blanche Stiefel Meyer on October 14, 1924, welcomed by an older brother, Allan. She was the apple of her father's eye, whom she idolized. Unfortunately, she lost her dad at only age 10; the sweet memory of him leaving an indelible mark upon her life. As a young girl, she spent much time with her grandmother, Clara Stiefel, who imparted a lifelong love of reading, cooking, and compassion for others.

At Bexley High School she was known for her musical talents, being selected as a solo vocalist at her graduation. After a brief stint at Ohio State University and in the middle of World War II, she married Richard T. Drukker, an attorney and lieutenant in the US Navy. At war's end, they moved west to Los Angeles, where Dick practiced law and they started a family. They traveled to Europe in 1958, a trip that ignited Barbara's interest in history, gourmet cooking and the arts. It prompted her to return to college, a journey that would take the next 10 years to complete. In 1968, she graduated from UCLA with honors; one of the proudest accomplishments of her life. Before Dick's death in 1971, they would build a home on a hill in Pacific Palisades that she would live in and love for the next 50 years.

Through a mutual friend, Barbara was introduced to fellow Palisadian, Carlisle Manaugh. They fell in love, discovering the greatest joys of life together. They shared a love of family, friends, food, travel, holiday decorating, dogs, gardening, dancing, and music and married in 1975. Barbara's family now also included Carlisle's three children, whom she treasured as her own. Carlisle and Barbara shared their love of a lifetime for nearly 20 years, until his passing in 1992.

Throughout her life, Barbara indulged her artistic side. From classes at Rustic Canyon Park, she became a prolific potter and silversmith, known for her free-form and whimsical designs. Well into her 90's, she painted and colored, with great concentration and creativity. She was also active in the community, leading numerous efforts on behalf of the Pacific Palisades Historical Society, the Pacific Palisades Woman's Club, the Aldersgate Retreat Center, the Pacific Palisades Library, and the Pacific Palisades Methodist Church (including its “OK Room Sewing Group). She helped to establish the Los Liones park, another proud example of her tenacity and leadership.

Above all, Barbara loved her family, which includes her six children and their spouses who survive her, Bill and Donna, Janet and Chee, Michael and Carrie, Carla and Dwight, Molly and Max, and Mats; her five grandchildren and their spouses, David and Heather, Colin and Amanda, Kristen and Lorin, Kathleen and Brett, and Orion and Saglara; her seven great grandchildren, Kelly, Rachel, Allison, Jordana, Amelia, Nathaniel and Finn; her niece Susan, and her nephew, Jack.

She was a woman of undaunted beliefs in the power of kindness, compassion, charity, curiosity, humor, social justice and love. And her example continues to inspire all those that she touched with her light.

Ralph James Treadway

Lovingly memorialized by Danielle Treadway on January 27, 2021

On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, Ralph James Treadway ascended to the Promised Land. An avid hiker, Ralph was engaged in one of his favorite pastimes; hiking in God’s great outdoors.
Ralph was born at Ford Ord, CA on August 9th, 1955. After graduating Salinas High School in 1973, he enlisted in the US Navy and was selected as a member of the Navy’s heralded nuclear power school becoming ‘Reactor Ralph;’ ultimately reaching the rank of Ensign and becoming a reactor operator serving on the USS Ohio. Ralph’s love of the sea never faltered. He relished his time as a crew member on numerous sailboats and was able to participate in the prestigious Transpacific Yacht Race. As a civilian, Ralph spent much of his career as an IT professional in the fresh produce industry. He was employed by Coastline Family Farms as its Food Safety Manager. He was indeed generous to a fault. He served as the Salinas High Booster BBQ master for over 10 years creating his amazing mouthwatering tri-tip. If one needed a helping hand, Ralph was always first in line. From dance to tennis lessons and commitment to personal betterment, he truly lived a very full life. And he certainly enriched many many more. Ralph instilled in his daughters a love of the outdoors in many different ways and when he wasn't sailing or hiking he could be found around a campfire enjoying a cigar and a good book.
Ralph will be remembered in a last sail and private family ceremony. Friends and members of the community are invited to join Ralph’s family at a celebration of life at a time to be determined.

The family wishes memorial contributions be made to either to:

Dennis Catanyag

Lovingly memorialized by John Lai on January 23, 2021

My Heaven for Dennis

He is a world-renowned baker/pastry chef; playing lots of tennis and his serve “is on”; running marathons without injuries; laying on a bed of puppies, just SO many happy dogs around him; holding his baby Caitlyn tightly in his arms, smelling her and kissing her; spending time with his mom and dad; spending time with Louis, Luckey, and his Mr. River; never-ending swimming in the warm ocean like Hawaii; eating Filipino fried fish and fresh coconuts; drinking soda, trenta green tea lemonades with light ice, and red wine; tiny kids’ spoons to eat his Ube ice cream; winning at mahjong and poker; all kinds of games and competition; taking care of huge sparkling ponds with koi fish and so many fruit trees; singing songs with his beautiful voice with lots of range; laughing and smiling- that smile...

…until we see each other again, my sweet husband, you will always be with me.

Myrtle Adeline Rogness Oppeboen

Lovingly memorialized by Her Granddaughters on January 21, 2021

On Sunday January 17th, 2021 Myrtle Adeline Rogness Oppeboen, loving grandma to four grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren passed away.

Myrtle was born in Watford City, ND on January 25th, 1933. We’re told she was a dedicated student, a talented singer with perfect pitch. As this is being written by her granddaughters, we’ll say that life for Myrtle started on October 18th, 1984 when she became a grandmother for the first time.

From our perspective grandma lived for being a grandma, sure, she likely had other things going on in her life but to us grandma-ing was top priority. She never missed an event, she ate stale peanut butter sandwiches perched on a tiny chair on grandparents’ day, watched from the front row at every play, recital, gymnastics meet and karate belt presentation. When we ran into her at the bowling alley on a field trip, she promptly pulled us out of summer camp and took us to back to her house. Sleepovers at grandma’s house were a big time treat. We wore grandpas oversized ARIZONA WILDCAT t-shirts, stayed up late giggling followed by empty threats from grandma about a spanking. In the morning we had perfectly toasted toast and chocolate milk out of a fancy goblet. Grandma was very fashionable and wanted us to be the same. She worked at Merry Simmons, a children’s clothing store, to get firsthand access and a discount to all the latest kid’s fashion. She even entered us in a fashion show for the store. Back to school shopping was an all-day event with Grams followed by a fashion show for grandpa when we got home. One summer grandma came across two toddler sized dolls at her local antique store. Both 3ft tall with red hair “Rose” and “Rachel” became part of the family. Grandma bought them outfits and shoes, we took them to painting camp and gave them at home haircuts. Grandma even grandma’d the dolls. One afternoon grandma decided the best use for the jar of pennies she had in the cupboard was to build a 6-foot-long human face out of pennies. And force grandpa to walk around this magnificent piece of artwork for the rest of the evening. Between summer sausage sandwiches and “after-eight mints”, Grandmas house was always a place of joy, food and the occasional “chocolate fix”. The holidays at Grandma’s house are memories that will last a lifetime. Whether it be Easter, Halloween or Christmas, Grandma’s house was fully decorated. Even the smell of her Christmas decorations was a warm scent that will always remind us of her open and loving home. She was a truly a special woman whose selflessness and generosity will always be remembered. She brought so much to our lives and we are incredibly blessed to have been able to call her grandma.

Patricia Case

Lovingly memorialized by HaH Comms on January 20, 2021

We are extremely saddened to hear of the passing of one of our much loved colleagues, Patricia Case, known as Pat by most.

Pat started working with Healthcare at Home in September 2005 as a Home IV Nurse and in 2012, she was promoted to Clinical Manager.

After leaving us for a short period of time in 2017, Pat rejoined HaH in 2018 as a Specialist Homecare Nurse and very recently moved to the role of Nurse Advisor in our Care Bureau Team.

Pat unfortunately battled with cancer, but having received treatment through Healthcare at Home, colleagues have praised Pat’s positive outlook on life and dedication to her role at Healthcare at Home.

During her 15 years with Healthcare at Home, Pat had built many special friendships with team members and colleagues from across the organisation and she will be missed by all who had the pleasure of working with her.
