"We didn't know so soon,
God would call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You didn't go alone.
For part of us went with you,
the day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
Your always by our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again."

Richard Saroyan
Lovingly memorialized by Rich Saroyan on January 19, 2015
Throughout my dad's life, he was committed to education and helping young people. He taught high school history and anthropology, later became an assistant principal, and most recently worked at Fresno State University as a master teacher for those earning their teaching credential.
As friends and loved ones have been reaching out to us, I have heard a reoccurring theme: dad was a genuine and nice man. The first time I heard this was during my freshman year at Burlingame High School. It just so happened that dad was one of our assistant principals. Scary, right? One fall morning in 1993, I was walking in the main hall when a senior on the football team stopped me. The guy was huge, about the size of an industrial refrigerator. Wearing his jersey with both sleeves rolled up, he looked down at all one hundred pounds of me and asked "Hey. Are you Saroyan's son?" I had to come clean and see what happened. "Yeah" I sheepishly replied. "Your dad is a good guy!" I can't put into words the relief I felt at that moment.
Years have gone by, and time and time again I have heard the same thing from dozens of people. He was a good guy. I now stand tall, hold my head up high and say this: not only was my dad a nice man and mentor to many, he was a great father.
I love my dad.
We would greatly appreciate if you could take a few moments and share your thoughts, feelings or stories. It would mean the world.

Manish Makwana
Lovingly memorialized by Rajen Makwana on January 14, 2015
Manish Makwana was a great man. Saying that just does not do it. Unfortunately, we do not have the words to truly explain what this man did for people around him, what he meant to the people close to him and just how much he did for others. Manish was honest and direct, he told things as he saw them. Manish was always there for his friends and family. If you had a problem, Manish would be at your side, through thick and thin, and would not give up on a task until it was completed. Hard working and meticulous do not do justice to his work ethic. Manish was organised, at times to the point of military precision. His attention to detail meant that in his work and his personal life, people all around him felt the positive side of his presence. He loved openly, with a heart as big as his personality. He made everyone laugh, right down to those who could normally not be moved to laughter. He lived his life to the full, never missing an opportunity to share in a new experience.
Dutiful Son, Dependable Brother, Dedicated Husband, Loving Father and Loyal Friend - the loss of Manish is felt far and wide among us all. We can never see Manish again, but he lives forever in our memories of him and of course, through his young son Saagan. If we cannot see him before us, let us keep his spirit alive by being inspired by these memories and try to live our lives like him - to the full.
We love you Manish.
