Bob was much beloved and as much an institution in Whitmore as the post office, general store and the Cow Creek Plateau, having moved there 25 years ago to live closer to grandchildren and to escape the congestion and cold fog of his early years in the Bay Area.
In a career dedicated to moving and shaping the earth, he found many years of happiness restoring national forestlands damaged by fire. Among his experiences, he was most happy outdoors operating heavy equipment as an Operating Engineer, and left his mark on iconic projects throughout California including water conservation reservoirs, skate parks, baseball fields, golf courses, countless residential developments, and college campus features.
He served as sergeant in the California Army National Guard during the Korean War era. Later in life he participated in dozens of backcountry tours as a member of the Redding Jeep Club, with Carolyn, his wife of 61 years, by his side.
Bob’s infectious love of baseball inspired each of his kids and also his wife to join a uniformed team at one time or another, and even delivered him a brief career as right fielder for the St Louis Cardinals AAA.
His greatest joy came from spending time with his large family, imbued with his love of sports, zany sense of adventure, overarching fairness – and a trademark stubbornness – that distinguish his family legacy.
Bob peacefully entered into rest on March 6, 2017 after a two year battle with cancer. He is survived by Carolyn and their six children – Laura, Patti, Jim, Joe, John and Mike – his sister Betty, brother Ray, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, Bob would be happy to know of your contribution to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital Foundation (www.stjude.org).

Candy had a Bachelor Degree in English Literature from Kansas State University and a Master's Degree in Film and Photography from University of Denver. She was the Curator of the Museum at the University in Bozeman Montana. She played percussion in the Flamenco Fantasy Dance Theatre for many years. She also played the Bassoon , Piano, Organ and Glockenspiel. She was awarded Recognition of Attainment as Outstanding Senior Vocalist.
Not only was she very beautiful and talented, she was sweet and kind and loved children and animals.
We were married for thirty three years and she was the love of my life.
- Rene Heredia, husband, partner
Friends of the family are encouraged to remember Candy by making a contribution to the flamenco scholarship fund established in her memory, to help continue the flamenco tradition she loved so passionately.
The Candace Bevier Heredia Flamenco Dance Scholarship is awarded to a student who would be unable otherwise to afford the costs associated with the study of Flamenco. The scholarship is named in honor of Candace Bevier Heredia, who was a percussionist / photographer and vital presence in the company for many years, and the beloved wife of René Heredia,
The scholarship consists of tuition waivers and a cash grant to enable the student to purchase dance shoes and costumes or musical instruments.
Donations in memory of Candy can be made at https://reneheredia.com/gypsy-flamenco-lessons/flamenco-scholarship/
