The Story

MARGARET PENNEY MCCARTHY
January 3, 1942 – February 21, 2016

...a picture of Green's Harbour, Newfoundland pictured above that always held our mother's heart.

Margaret Aseneth Jane Penney McCarthy (January 3, 1942 – February 21, 2016) passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 74 in Bedford, Texas surrounded by her husband and 4 children.

Margaret is survived by her Husband, James Thomas McCarthy (74) of Bedford, TX. Daughters: Penny Lynn Luker (48) and her husband Bill Luker of North Richland Hills, TX, Peggy Ann Taylor (46) of Bedford, TX, and Pammy Sue Ortiz (41) and her husband Chris Ortiz of Dallas, TX. Her Only Son, James William McCarthy (38) and his wife Anya McCarthy of Plano, TX. Grandchildren: Kayla Hontz (24), Krysta Hontz (22), Dani Taylor (19), Gage Taylor (11), Viva Soulz Ortiz (3) and Paz Christoph Ortiz (1). Great Grandchild: Gentry Hamill (4 Months). Sisters: Alma Warren and Elizabeth Mercer both of Newfoundland, Canada. Sisters-in-Law: Cheryl McCarthy and Marianne Adams of Vincennes, IN. Aunts: Violet Mossop of Mississauga, Canada and Patty McCarthy of Vinncennes, IN. Pre-Deceased by her Father and Mother William and Doris Penney of Green’s Harbour and Brother William Ernest George Penney.

Margaret was a Canadian Citizen born in Green's Harbour, Newfoundland and passed away as a Canadian Citizen in Bedford, Texas. She met her Husband in Goose Bay, Labrador in 1966 and moved to Vincennes, Indiana and then to Texas where she raised a beautiful family of 4 Children, 6 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.

Margaret always said the perfect Gift in Life was....Family. Her Family was her Life. Her Family is what she lived for. She was the perfect Mother for her children and the perfect Nana for her grandchildren. She was the perfect wife to her husband as they truly lived until death did them part. She lived her life as a model for others. Margaret loved by example and Margaret lived by example with nothing less than kindness and love. Her heart had no boundaries and her love had no limits.

Margaret's wishes were to be cremated. Following the blessing of her ashes by the Priest from the reading of "John 14:1-6" at the Cathedral de Guadalupe in Dallas, TX, a private family celebration was held for her on Sunday, March 6th in honor of her beautiful, beautiful life. On May 31st, in her home country of Canada, a private family service was held by Reverend Fisher. Margaret's ashes were then laid to rest beside her Mom and Dad in the family plot at Green's Harbour, Newfoundland as they made the sign of the cross, read the Lord's Prayer as well as the 23rd Psalm and sang one of Margaret's favorite hymns, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."

God Bless her beautiful soul. She will forever rest in peace. Her soul will truly live in her family’s hearts forever.

In lieu of donations, plant a tree. And when you see a bird, think of her.

My nana was a one of a kind sweet compassionate loving woman. She was like another mother to me. There is not a moment that passes that I don't think about her. I miss her so much and I know she is looking down helping and guiding me. I love you and miss you nana.

Our hearts are filled with sadness for the loss of our loved one--your mom, my sister--Margaret Penney McCarthy. We will miss her kind and compassionate spirit but she will live forever in our memories and in our hearts--Say not in grief "She is no more" but live in thankfulness that she was. Hebrew proverb--Love you all, Aunt Betty and Family

I wrote the below for you on March 21st. We continue to miss you every day. Thank you for giving me your Pammy Sue. Who then gave me your Viva and Paz. You were and are the best Mother-in-Law I could have ever asked for, a Mother to Pam and the Nana to our Viva and Paz. We miss you so much every day. Continue to be our Angel. We love you. * Wanted to post this sooner but wanted to find the right words for our Margaret Penney McCarthy......... As many of you have heard, Pammy's Mom passed away unexpectedly recently who just happened to be the best mother-in-law a son-in-law could have ever asked for......our children also lost their best friend that day. We saw her almost every week........I thanked her so often for raising the woman I would spend the rest of my life with. This is one of my favorites with Nana, Viva, and Paz. They loved their Nana and will miss their best friend deeply. The love and joy they gave to each other was unbelievable. You could always see it through the eyes of their Nana. Thank you for the shine and life of joy you gave to Viva and Paz - the run down the sidewalk to give you flowers on Sunday's - the tickles you gave them with your Newfie grawl - the books you read and games you played and every birthday and holiday they had a handwritten card and present waiting for them from their Nana and Baba. The pride I had as a Husband, Father, and son-in-law to always represent you and your family with. You would thank me all the time........but, I would always thank you for...YOU....and the many gifts you gave me.....and having Pammy for our family. Thank you, Pammy, for sharing her with me too. You guys were just alike and now we have Viva to always share that heart and love to so many. I know she left this earth so proud raising Pammy as her legacy of an amazing Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister and Friend who is an inspiration to so many. Pammy's heart has no boundaries just like her mother. Pammy is doing better day by day......Pammy said it best today as tears flowed about her mother: What is Faith? Faith is finding peace even when we don't understand. Pammy's Mom was a huge part of who I am and we miss her terribly. Thank you all for the texts, phone calls, flowers and cards. God is holding us close and as each day passes, peace and joy continues to grow thankfully. She was very much my mother too for 21 years. We will all miss her so much. Margaret Penney McCarthy, we all can't wait to see you one day in heaven. Love.... Your Son-in-Law
