The Story

Dave and I lived together since he got diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma cancer 7 years ago. Throughout that time we shared many experiences and memories. We laughed, we cried, we fought, and we laughed again. Dave was one of the wittiest, funniest, most generous, compassionate, caring, and humble people I've ever met. His strength and courage set an example for me to follow. I am blessed to have been his sister and his best friend.
I'll never forget how Dave helped me and guilded me over the years, generously sharing his time and energy. From picking out the perfect hair style for my wedding day to supporting through a horrible job situation. Dave always took great interest in my life helping me cope and work through problems. He had such a selfless nature and way about him.
D was infamous for being a prankster- even during his last stay in the hospital- he was constantly telling jokes about his port being broken, telling people his name was pronounced Daveed. He constantly made bets with the nurses about how quickly he was going to recoup and go home. His charismatic personality and charm made him one of the most lovable people. He made an effort to connect with everyone from homeless people on the street to family, friends and relatives. He enjoyed making people laugh and making light of bad situations. Throughout the past 7 years Dave never complained. He never accepted pity from anyone based on his condition, instead he courageously fought his battle and he won. He beat the odds. That sums up Dave, always striving for more, always exceeding expectations and pushing the limits because of his desire and will. I couldn't be more proud of my brother.
I can go on for hours talking about the kind of person D was but, I think many of you here already know.
On this day and forever more there will be a hole in my heart, a huge void that can only be filled by the moments we shared because he made my life better in every way possible.
