The Story
Margaret (Peggy) Viola Fosso passed away Saturday, April 8 th surrounded by her loving family. A leap year baby, she was born February 29 th , 1936 in Seattle, Washington to Robert and Eleanor Harpster. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1953 and Pacific Lutheran College in 1957.
She taught kindergarten at Park Place School in Tacoma and Monroe School in Davenport, Illinois. Peggy was the first woman to run for school board in Thief River Falls Minnesota in a hotly contested race. She took great pride in serving as a pastor’s wife. She worked with her good friends Barb and Dr. Bob at the Westwood Clinic in Milwaukie, Oregon from 1975 until 1990, and later at Clackamas Gastroenterology Clinic until 1998, when she married Don Fosso and moved to Oak Harbor, Washington.
Peggy was an accomplished musician, playing the piano and organ, and especially treasured children’s music ministry for years at King of Kings Lutheran Church and later, after her second marriage to Don, at Oak Harbor Lutheran where they worshiped together during their 18 years of marriage.
Peggy had four boys with her first husband Denny, Mark Rodin (Armand), of Los Angeles, Curt Rodin (Carol), of Anacortes, Jeff Rodin (Susie) of Salem, Oregon and Phil Rodin (Mindy) of Salem, Oregon. She is also survived by Don’s children Rick Fosso, Steve Fosso (Kori) and Dan Fosso (Yuli). She was crazy about her 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. The happy, loving sound of her grandchildren laughing and playing was the most beautiful music she knew.
She had a wonderful gift of hospitality and kept in touch faithfully with friends and family near and far writing countless letters and notes.
In addition to her years of music ministry in the church, she volunteered her time with the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, in local school classrooms and by knitting and donating thousands of hats for the homeless and disadvantaged.
A Celebration of her life will be held 10am, Saturday, April 15 th at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church and 10am, Friday, May 19th at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Milwaukie, Oregon.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Habitat for Humanity of Island County or the charity of your choice.
Your mother was a wonderful person to know. I will always remember her happy smile. Joyce Allison
