Born: Fort Benning on 06 December 1976

Funeral Date: 21 August 2016

Service Details

Please join us in celebrating the life and friendship of Corey Ellen on August 21st between 1pm and 4pm at the Woods Community Center located at 10100 Wards Grove Circle, Burke, VA 22015. Please bring your favorite dish to share and email us with what you are bringing to rememberingcoreyellen@gmail.com

This will be a non-traditional gathering of family and friends to come together and share with each other stories about our dear friend and to celebrate her life. (Children are welcome to attend) There will not be a viewing as per Corey's wishes. She will be joining her mother in St Croix in the near future. This will be casual get together, which is what Corey loved the most. There will be no speeches or services; just good people sharing good stories and spreading good vibes. As this is a family friendly affair, there will not be any alcohol.

A gentle reminder: We all cherish and adore the kids, but to receive all of our love and compassion at once can be a bit overwhelming for the them. So they would greatly appreciate it if you would ask them before hugging them.

We would like everyone to bring one picture of Corey with your favorite memory written on the back and signed by you to contribute to a living scrapbook that we will create onsite.

This is a happy event with a beach theme. So slip on your flip flops and sun dresses and lets cry only in laughter. Telling good stories, spreading good vibes and remembering the light and the love the was Corey.

For those who want to support Corey's fight against cancer or her passion project of working with One Common Unity, you can do so by:
1. Making a donation in Corey’s name to the Susan G. Komen foundation (info-komen.org) or the National Breast Cancer Foundation (nationalbreastcancer.org)
2. Donating to One Common Unity (onecommonunity.org)
3. Donating hair to any of the organizations that support cancer patients
4. Put a pink streak in your hair for breast cancer awareness

For those who can not make the event but have pictures or stories to contribute to the scrapbook email: rememberingcoreyellen@gmail.com

If you have questions about the event, email rememberingcoreyellen@gmail.com

The Story

“Only once in your life...you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement.
They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are.
The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colors seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you.
You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon...You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end.

She had such a beautiful soul and I felt uplifted when around her. May we all bear our burdens with such grace and courage.

"The Perfect Prayer"
That is perfect.
This is perfect.
When perfection is taken from the perfect, Perfect alone remains.
OM Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.
Thus, beloved Corey remains: Perfect, Whole, Infinite.
With abiding love and affection,
Mary and Emma Richards
