The Story

Loving mother, devoted wife. Joann was born and raised in Lima Ohio. She loved music from an early age and as a young teen ager she would sing with her uncles at local venues. She was a big band singer in the early 50’s, and lived and performed in Chicago.

After moving back to Lima she met the love of her life, Max Tomasi, gave up singing professionally, and settled down to raise their family. Over the years they lived in Toledo, Mequon Wi., Kenosha Wi., and South Bend In. before moving back to Toledo.

Joann was very gregarious and outgoing and made friends everywhere she went. Her door was always open and the house was always filled with friends and family. She was a wonderful cook and never let anyone leave on an empty stomach.

She suffered a number of health issues in her later years, but rarely complained. Her pat answer was always “I’m okay” or “I’ll be alright.” She was fiercely independent and stubborn as the day was long. She was very protective, especially of her children and grandchildren, and seemed to care deeply for everyone in her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband Max, son Jeff and step-son Greg. Surviving family members include her sons Michael, Mark, Tony and John, ten grandchildren, her sister Bernice and numerous other nephews, nieces and cousins.
