The Story

James Lloyd "Jim" Baldwin has left us to explore beyond the veil, after a short illness at his home in Gillette, WY, on October 30, 2015, at the age of 86.

Jim is survived by two brothers, Billy Jo Mayfield, of Council, ID, and Ralph Leese, of Ananconda, MT, as well as 3 nephews, 4 nieces, and 6 great-nephews and 7 great-nieces He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Baldwin and his mother Helen A. (Beardslee) Baldwin, as well as his brothers Jack W. Baldwin, and Clarence Russell Baldwin.

Jim was born on April 10, 1929, in Meeteetse, WY. He attended elementary school in Casper and Aladdin, WY, and graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper, WY, in June, 1948. Jim was an excellent student and scored at the top of his class in many subjects. Jim was a very intelligent young man, with his IQ recorded several times at or above 175.

Jim joined the army in 1951 and served in Korea with the 66th HQ Battalion Auxiliary Power Unit, and elsewhere around the world. Jim received the Korean Service Medal, with 2 Bronze Stars, and the National Service Medal (Special United Nations Service), and a Good conduct Service Medal. He served as an Amphibious Vehicle Driver, and in August of 1954, he was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He also served 8 years in the Army Reserve, until he retired after being injured.

After his service, Jim worked as a truck driver, a carpenter, an entrepreneur and a writer. Jim was a lifetime member of the American Legion, the National Rifle Association and the Tea Party Patriots.

Jim had a lifelong enjoyment of photography, hunting, and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed woodworking and woodcarving.

He lived most of his life in Wyoming and Montana, and resided in Gillette, WY for the past 35 years.

Jim loved and was loved by friends and family alike, and recently especially enjoyed the many hours he spent with friends at the Campbell County Senior Center in Gillette, WY, where he will be missed at the puzzle table.
