The Story

John Barry, son of William Barry and Eva Barry (nee Morden), was one of four siblings. He is pre-deceased by his brother Grant Barry. John is survived by his brother William Barry and sister, Gillian Werner as well as his four nieces and nephews.
As an avid skier in his 20s and later as a committed swimmer, John always kept busy exploring and pushing himself. With a strong sense of adventure, John moved to Japan in the 90s to teach English and explore Asia . Japan gave John a lifelong love of Sushi and Bonsai. No Christmas gathering was complete without an order of Hokkigai.
John was also a talented Chess player which brought out his competitive side.
Back in Canada, John's pursuit of a career in trading and the market was a large part of his life. He was always investigating MS research, treatment, and therapy trial stocks and ventures as well.

A strong and fiercely independent person, John will be remembered by many as being an incredibly positive and truly unique individual who always took the path less travelled. He will be missed by many who crossed his path through one of his many adventures.

Please leave stories, comments, and wishes below about John and help share in his memory.

I'm very sorry to be so late posting - I only recently heard the news of my old friend's death. I met John on our first day at high school. We were great pals from the start, but after I moved away to train as a chemistry and science teacher - and then 30 years at "Queen Elizabeth High School" (QEHS) Calgary - we lost touch. About 10 years ago we reconnected via the magic of email, and swapped many a yarn about the good old days. Rest in peace. Pete (Peter Drake), Hexham, Victoria, Australia

I have sadly just learned of John's passing. I knew John during my university years and was honoured to count him as a friend and to know his kindness and experience his wacky sense of humour! I have great memories of his various classic cars, about which he waxed poetic, and of driving through snowstorms in pursuit of yet another ski adventure. And many fishy stories involving sushi! I am glad he is in a better place, after years of suffering. Rest in peace, my friend, and I am so glad to have known you!
