The Story

Rubye Avery Watson Sunrise April 10, 1925~Sunset August 1, 2015

Rubye Loleta Avery Watson was born on April 10, 1925 in Smithfield, NC to LeVanna and Arthur Sanders. She will be reunited in glory by her sister Dorothy Frazier and her devoted brother William “Bill” Avery.

She was educated in the schools of Johnson County. In addition to enjoying her tight-knit family, she was known for her love of traveling, being active in church and her avid participation in the Ever Ready club.
Mrs. Watson always had a strong work ethic, which was a large part of her legacy that was passed on to her children. After 21 years of work she retired from Fieldcrest Cannon, also in Smithfield, NC.

In the 1970's she was honored as "Mother of the Year", by the American Legion of Smithfield, NC. She also volunteered with the local area March of Dimes and Food Bank. She spent her spare time building the community in any way that she could and promoting deep-seeded educational values.

Mrs. Watson was very active in her local assembly. She was a member of St. Peter's Church of Christ Disciples of Christ for over seventy years and was one of the first members of the church Floral Club.

Her favorite pastimes were reading her bible, anything concerning her grandchildren, solving word search puzzles, telling the goodness of the lord, and most of all praising his wonderful name through hymns. Her favorite Bible verse was the Psalm 121 “I will lift mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord..." In addition to her love for Mahalia Jackson, her favorite song was, " I Will Trust In the Lord".

She leaves to cherish her memory son Emmett Watson (Marie) of Selma, NC ; Cynthia Watson (of the home); Gloria Watson Atkinson (Ralph) of Wendell, NC. Mrs. Rubye Watson was preceded in death by son, Lee Arthur Watson and daughter Frankie “Jackie” Reid, and loving husband Leo Edward Watson. She is also survived by her special nieces Marilyn Garner and Stephanie Avery, brother-in-law Edward Watson (Joyce) and sister-in-law Dorothy Watson (Jimmy) her grandchildren: James, Kyle, and Reginald Reid; Leslie Watson, Victor Badger, Eric Watson, Tina Brown-Jimenez, Angela Baldwin, Eric Miles, Ralph Atkinson, Jr. Yvette Atkinson, Veronica Hilton Rainey, AveryLynelle Atkinson, and preceded in death by Brian Brown. She also leaves a great legacy of love to a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and loyal extended family and friends.
