The Story

We are saddened to announce the recent passing of our founder and teacher, Elizabeth Noble. Elizabeth Noble has been a highly-respected and internationally recognized, captivating speaker setting standards for physical therapy training and contributing to the education of physical therapists in the women's health field. She is known to have awakened an interest in many to specifically pursue the women's health field and paved the way for women's health physical therapy professionals. She was a brilliant teacher and expert in the field. Our condolences go out to the family and dear friends of Elizabeth Noble. Her legacy and passion will continue to flourish through her contributions to the Section and beyond.



About Elizabeth:

Elizabeth Noble was born and raised in Australia where she received degrees in physiotherapy, philosophy, and anthropology. She moved to the U.S. in 1973, and in 1977 founded the Section on Women's Health of the American Physical Therapy Association. From 1979 to 1990 she was the founder and director of the Maternal and Child Health Center and Cambridge Physical Therapy in Cambridge, MA.

She has been a member of several editorial and advisory boards in the U.S. and abroad. She has published articles and several journals in psychology, medicine and health. Elizabeth Noble was a writer and a teacher extraordinaire that has provided training through seminars for thousands of health-care professionals for the last 40 years. She has published several books and educational videos that have been translated to multiple languages and distributed internationally via different mediums.

The Section on Women's Health has established the Elizabeth Noble Award in her honor to help and commend a new aspiring leader each year that exemplifies her qualities of providing exceptional service in the physical therapy field.
